Fortunately Brisbane is fairly centric CBD-wise, so unless you're planning on a short trip to Australia Zoo it wouldn't really matter.

We've stayed at Rydges, it's not too bad, when we were there (4 years ago?) I got the impression a freshening up might be in order. We've stayed at the Sebel (middle of the CBD) which was very nice. Our wedding night was spent at the Powerhouse which is a bit further out of town (about 10-15 minutes by taxi, but closer to the airport), very opulent and worth the extra coin if it's a special occasion.

Many years ago I spent the night at the Hilton in the mall which was ordinary. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since, so I don't know any more.

I haven't stayed at the others but I've heard the Sofitel might be worth a shot.

will check the sebel out. What of the riverside though - nice to be near the pub on Southbank there - had a good few ales whilst the band played once or twice.

got the Stamford - on a WOTIF mystery deal - pretty good value considering anything half decent was about only 20 bucks cheaper per night.

And in my neck of the woods there's the Judith Wright Centre in Brunswick Street in the Valley.

.. and the Powerhouse in New Farm.

for starters...

do not recommend the comfort inn at northgate.couldnt find a hotel when I arrived back via brisbane late at night so i finished up at the confort in. payed 140 plus a 20 dollar taxi fare. i'm sure they ripped me off.next night i stayed at the Holiday Inn near Roma Street Station because I couldn't find a room at the Novotel..I 'm an Accor member so normally when I pick up I go to the Accor chains like the Novotel. Unfortunately they didnt have one spare room.School holidays i dont how contributed to every room having a no vacancy sign up. unbelievable. serves me right for assuming something would be available. I'd reccomend the Holiday Inn might be a bit pricey. same with the Novotal. I like their rooms they have everything you can expect from a typical 4 star hotel. beds are nices and soft. The Holiday Inn at Roma Street has some nice views. And in a good location to move around from

Rydges would be another I recommed but I based that on having stayed at the Rydges at World Sq in Sydney and Melbourne.Thie rooms are nice and they provide an excellent buffet breakfast. They also have a fantastic bar.The Rydges at the world square have a great massage service. head and neck cost 35 dollars but it felt great. That's in Sydney you want Brisbane.I dont know Brisbane that well.

I did stay at Kangaroo point once about 10 years ago .The hotel was a tower and I had a nice view.Nice hotel I cant remember the name

Yes the parklands around Roma Street are a massive improvement over the railyards that previously existed there. A nice place for a stroll or to find a quiet corner to relax.

Not sure of Brisbane, the one @ Golden Beach (Caloundra) isn't all that flash from experience.

I never got to explore that much just a 2 night transit .The night i arrived into Brisbane I questioned why I couldnt find a room. There seemed to be enough hotels.Apparantly its not the same place I grew up to think... carries alot of misconception about it.. well probably on my end. From my limited travels Brisbane looked pretty.
